"Columbia Records"

Columbia Records is the ideal professional niche association in the field of music and entertainment. They have kept a great record of keeping some of the worlds mega superstars for years now. As a team they get the job done. They promote their artists’ products well, make sure they are managed, they keep their music popular and have just had a great consistent record of doing so for the last couple of decades.  

I am most interested in the company because of their success as a label and how they seem to effortlessly produce superstars who come equipped with talent. One major component that compliments Columbia Records is that is a subsidiary label to Sony Music Entertainment, one of the world’s largest entertainment corporations.

On the labels website they keep information updated about their artist as far as upcoming tour dates and performances, public appearances, album releases, press releases, etc. By doing this, the company is inevitably doing great marketing. I say this because I know for my self I have visited the company’s website in an attempt to inquire information about one artist and acquired more than I intended simply because of the display of new or different music from their other prospects.

 Columbia Records has had a major affect on the music industry for a substantial amount of time now and judging by their list of superstars I don’t think that they will be going anywhere soon. Each year they obtain more success due to the number of their artists and musicians that win Grammy’s, Nickelodeon Awards, People’s Choice and many other accolades. Their legislative policy for anyone attached, attributed, and representing the name Columbia records is governed with the most esteemed respective hierarchy. With this established rapport, in the years to come we can only expect to see great things and hear more great music from Columbia Records

Michael Tilson "Music and Emotion Through TIme"

On Ted.com there was a video posted by Michael Tilson, a classical pianist and conductor who discussed the emotion he and other prolific stars have behind the music they play. He focused on the concept of emotion in the music reaches the emotion of the audience.

Although Michael Tilson is a classical musician he did not only stress the genre of that style to the audience, but “a new language that is always evolving.” It was interesting to me that he kind of wanted the viewer to understand the psychology of music in terms of perception. The Michael Tilson video on Ted.com is called “music and emotion through time” and throughout the video he even discussed history, education and the art of composition as it evolved overtime.

Tilson described several significant events within music history such as how we have made things like virtuoso and modern day sheet music available in comparison to Gregorian chant hand notation. He talked about the science that makes our perception vary from one moment in a song to another.

What was most fascinating to me was a moment when he brought to the audiences attention that when the musician stops playing the music stops. The idea that something about what was played during the period of time that the performance was going on something was left in the perceiver’s mind that stuck with them even at the end of the performance and sometimes even thereon. Whether it is a melody, rhythm, mood or attitude that has the potential to chance a person’s life. As a musician myself, this was the moment in the video that I knew I have a new take on the music I performance. Immediate, I was inspired. It has helped me develop a deeper understanding to the music I play and listen to. 

Entertainment Finance

Usher Success

Born Usher Terry Raymond IV October 14, 1978 in Dallas, Texas, was one of the biggest names in pop music culture. Usher having released his sixth album to date, all of which have reached number on the billboard charts, has been a prominent figure for young adults over the last fifteen years. He has won seven grammy awards to date since his mid-1990’s album “My Way.” Also taking leading roles in movies such as “The faculty,” “Light It Up” and “In The Mix,” Usher has made his stamp and has a assured the public that he will continue to do so.

His latest project and musical endeavor was the release of his single “Climax,” a hit pop ballad that hit the radio airwaves in the month of February. The thing that catapulted the pop singer in superstardom was the release of his third album, Confessions, in 2004. The album revolutionized hip-hop when it introduced a genre of music termed hip-hop crunk. Since then Usher has introduced an even bigger superstar named Justin Beiber who is a contemporary pop singer who’s work dominated the charts with the release of his 2010 hit son “Baby, Baby, Baby.” The song had over 500 million hits on YouTube and the executive producer and creator behind the project was Usher Raymond IV.

Despite his troubled relationships with former girlfriend Chilli from TLC, English supermodel girlfriend Naomi Campbell, and ex-wife Tameka Foster, Usher continues to produce great work and persevere above all obstacles.

Recently becoming a father of two boys, Usher is obviously maturing as a man, making himself available to be there for his sons and not just entertainment for the world. For the last years he has been the young man that most teenage boys have idolized and looked up to, but now he is a man that his very own progeny can look up to and desire to be like.

Beyonce, "The Worlds Most Beautiful Woman"

Beyonce Gizelle Knowles is arguable the worlds most loved and most famous pop star right now. Currently holding the title of singer, actress, writer, dancer, wife, and now mother, Beyonce is today’s entertainment mogul of the decade.

With four solo albums of her own as well as a long-time career with the most top selling female group of all time, Destiny’s Child, Beyonce is a mega success. Apparently she has no plans of stopping. With her recent marriage to hip hop mogul Sean Carter AKA Jay Z, the couple gave birth to baby girl Blue Ivy Carter in New York City. Just weeks after the birth of her new baby girl Beyonce is back to work on the stage with a lyceum series performing in New Jersey’s Revel Atlantic City as well a three day show at New York City’s Madison Square Garden.

People magazine’s most recent publication featured Beyonce on the cover proclaiming her to be the worlds most beautiful woman with a special tribute to the singer having a total of 178 pictures of her throughout the magazine. The article gave a special focus on her recent endeavor as a mother writing, “She's an entertainment force of nature, 16-time Grammy winner, and beauty and style icon. But Beyoncé is proudest of one title that also happens to be her most recent: mommy to little Blue Ivy Carter.”

No doubt about it she s definitely one of the greatest pop stars we have ever seen in our lifetime. She remarkably stays out of the negative tabloids and keeps her personal as private as she possibly can. This is what makes Beyonce one of the most successful icons in popular culture. It is the graceful feeling of her presence, not only on the stage, but just her mere presence in a room. Beyonce is argue able the most beautiful woman in the world.
